Embedding Business Continuity
In this video Scott Baldwin answers the following question: “Embedding Business Continuity is the art of integrating Business Continuity Awareness and practice into business as usual activities and organizational culture” – please elaborate on this and share your experiences.
He explains that there is no single way of embedding business continuity into an organization. However, there are two components he uses to encourage engagement within a business. Both of these elements are essential and will not work in isolation.
Clearing the runway
- This represents the support, the training, the mentoring, even the framework – it needs to be clear, concise, intelligent, thoughtful, appropriate.
- Clearing the runway is removing all roadblocks and anything that can make the business frustrated.
Lighting the fuse
- Creating ownership, power, engagement – getting the organization to feel that they own the responsibility of risk as well as the ability to creatively come up with a solution to address risk.
Before you can make any inroads into improving organizational resilience, you need to understand the culture of the organization.
